Microsoft on thursday launched Windows 8 worldwide along with its most awaited gizmo- Surface tablet preloaded with Windows RT (a version of Windows 8) which would be shipped to the customers by today who have pre-ordered the tablet.
Primarily focussed on the mobility segment, Windows 8 is believed to be Microsoft's answer to Apple's iOS & Google's Android, which would support emerging technologies like low-power ARM architecture of microprocessors, USB 3.0, NFC, UEFI firmware, Cloud computing with a Metro-style touch-friendly User Interface and a new app platform.

Windows 8 is available in 4 versions :-
- Windows 8 - Basic version.Available for select tablets & PCs till Feb 2013.
- Windows 8 Pro - For Professional Users
- Windows 8 Enterprise - For Business customers (available through bulk licensing)
- Windows RT - Preloaded in ARM architecture based devices like the Surface tablet.

Microsoft is providing upgrade to Windows for existing Windows XP SP3, Vista or Wndows 7 users at $39.99 (INR 1,999) for downloadable copy & $69.99 for the shipped DVD version that can be bought directly from Microsoft's website.
