As per Akamai’s Q1 2012 State of the Internet report, the speed of broadband connections is now at 2.6 Mbps, a 25 percent rise vis-a-vis the same quarter last year.
In terms of average connection speed, South Korea occupied the top spot (15.7 Mbps), Japan coming 2nd (10.8 Mbps) followed by Hong Kong (9.3 Mbps).U.S is on 12th spot (6.7 Mbps) and India on 112th (1 Mbps).
Global Internet penetration saw 14% rise from Q1 2011 with more than 666 million unique IP addresses from 238 countries worldwide connecting to the Akamai intelligent platform during the period.
Mobile Broadband is growing at a fast pace with maximum speed clocking at 6 Mbps recorded in Germany.About 65 carriers have clocked more than 1 Mbps across the World.
With rising speeds, Internet attacks too have skyrocketed with Asia Pacific topping at 42% (majority of which was from China), 35% from Europe and 21% from North & South America.
